Lochbleche - Perforated Sheets
65Lochbleche - Perforated Sheets
lochbleche (Perforated Sheets) are made from stainless steel, galvanized steel and cold-rolled carbon steel plates or coils. Different types of perforated mesh and screen in the form of sheets, rolls or cylinders are made by many manufacturers worldwide. Different raw material is used to make lochblech (perforated metals). These are Steel, Stainless Steel, Phosphor-Bronze, Nickel, Copper and Brass. Some manufacturers use plastic and rubber to make perforated sheets.
Manufacturing lochblech(perforated metals) is a precision work normally carried out using CNC
machines. The user has to give exact specifications like margins and blank
areas, size of perforation, design of perforation, the metal to be used,
thickness of the sheet and its intended use. This helps the manufacturer align
the manufacturing process according to the requirement as a large number of
sheets/ coils would be made in one go. Normally, it is easier to make a coil of
perforated sheets which can be cut at the site, but certain users prefer sheets
to be cut by the manufacturer. Some typical designs of lochblech (perforated
metals) are shown below for reference:
Perforated
Sheets are used as Architectural Mesh, Perforated Security Screen, Perforated
Filter Tube, Sieves, Mesh, Ducting, Cable trays, etc.
Wide
variety of industries like Cement Manufacturing, Construction, Chemicals &
Fertilizers, Oil Manufacturers, Wheat and Rice Manufacturers, Automobiles,
Aerospace, Pharmaceuticals, Soap manufacturers and many others use the
perforated sheets.
In
Architectures, perforated metals have replaced solid sheets as they are less
bulky, cost-effective, easier to handle and flexible to design. Staircases,
Towers, Security Screens, Cabin Walls are now being made from perforated
sheets. Many applications use wire mesh as a strength building
component in the Cement design ensuring longevity.
Chemicals
and Fertilizers industry is another major user of perforated metals. They need to
sift their raw material, crush the raw material, mix it, pulverize it and again
sift the final product. All these processes use perforated sheets/ drums to
obtain the final products.
Pharmaceutical
industry uses the metal sheets for mixing the raw material, pulverizing it and
sending it into tablet making machines. The finished tablets are passed over
metal sieves to separate the tablets which do not meet the dimensional
requirements as the packing machine has to handle a specific size for fast
packing.
Wheat, Rice and other Grain packing industry uses perforated sheets extensively to separate un-husked grain from husked one, one size of grain from another ( quality) to help in the grading and packing process.
So we see that perforated sheets have become a part of our life. (The computer/ TV screen also has a fine mesh inside the glass front).
